Background Info

As with most immigrates that have chosen Canada as their new home it is of utmost importance to have a home away from home. This is especial true of Filipinos who by nature are very family oriented, warm, loving and kind. It is for these and many more reasons that the Filipino Association of Nova Scotia is wishing to raise enough funds so that they could begin to build a cultural community center for which all Filipinos can use as a meeting place for social, cultural, and recreational purposes. This community cultural center could also serve as a resource where on special events any Nova Scotian could come and gain an appreciation of Filipino culture, hospitality and way of life.

Every month Nova Scotia is welcoming new Filipinos to it shores in hopes that they will be productive members of our community. Currently most Filipinos arrive to Nova Scotia as care providers and nurses to look after our very young, aging population or persons of ill health. Their natural warm heartedness and love for people of all ages has made them a welcomed addition to our community. Filipinos are also world renowned for their high standards of work ethics, attention to detail and technical ability which can also help grow our country's economy.

With these points in mind a Filipino community cultural center and the Filipino community as a whole is often the only family and home that a newly arrived person from the Philippines has. Though the Filipino community also promotes integration into the Canadian way of life it is the hope that a new Filipino community cultural center will help Filipinos maintain those truly wonderful human qualities that we as Canadians love and as well make all Filipinos proud of their heritage.
