Mabuhay !
Welcome to the Filipino Association of Nova Scotia website. We hope that you will find it both educational and fascinating. Whether you are a Filipino-Canadian (or the significant other of one), a recent arrival from RP (Republika ng Pilipinas) or merely interested in all things Pinoy, this website is for you.
Check out our various links such as the " What's New " quick links located on FANS home page to find out what's happening in the Filipino community in Nova Scotia or what's new on the website. We have greatly expanded our photo collection which, for reasons of efficiency, is now available under the following separate links located on MSN FANS Web Page and an additional external link located on Photobucket. We encourage you to submit your own photos so we can post them on our website.
This is an exciting time for the Filipino Association of Nova Scotia and for the Filipino community in general in this province. The wonders of technology now allow those in the Filipino diaspora to communicate
frequently and in real time at relatively low cost (or for free) with
loved ones back home. The recent and continuous stream of new arrivals has greatly enriched the Pinoy community in Nova Scotia and across Canada. The " Pinoy Pioneers " in this province arrived here over 30 years ago. They and those who followed soon after are the bedrock of this organization and the Filipino community in Nova Scotia. However, much has changed in RP since then. The newest members of our community provide us all with fresh perspectives on what it means to be Pinoy. We in turn are more than happy to assist them in making connections and adapting to life in Canada while retaining a strong Pinoy identity and enhancing old ties back home.
The Filipino community is not always homogeneous. We all have different
backgrounds, experiences and ideas. Though we may have diverse views,
however, we live in a country where diversity is truly embraced and
indeed, celebrated. Yet in many ways, we all want the same things. A
better life for ourselves and our children- and for loved ones back home. Self-fulfilment and a sense of community. Pride in our heritage, both Filipino and Canadian. In this sense, we are all truly Hermano Hermana.
A safe and prosperous New Year. Bonne annee a tous !
Manigong Bagong Taon sa inyong lahat !
